New Shit, Old Shit

Sun Jun 7, 2009, 5:37 AM
I've just been spending the last few minutes poking around all the features on DA that i'd never bothered to look at before; hell there's plenty here I never even knew existed. And it highlighted to me just how little time I really spend using DA nowadays, whereas a couple of years ago I was regularly updating and commenting almost daily.

I think the reason I rarely post - which is due to the fact that I seldom draw these days - is down to my last year of school; where I devoted almost all of my time to art, and ended up having the most dire, shitty, soul-destroying, and generally off-putting year of my life, when I was really trying so hard to make it into one of the best.

The various things which happened in the academic year of 2007/8 put me off plenty more things than just art, but the fact that I'm not constantly thinking up new ideas for comics, new colour schemes, or any kind of new project, has definitely been the most notable change, and easily the most disturbing, because my identity was pretty much based upon the fact that I did lots of art.

But now, a year and 3 days since I left school, I've been starting to feel the old itch again. And I have been working on a project over the last few months. It has to be said, it's a project I've been planning to do for years, but only started recently as I've only just got some money behind it, and I'm not enjoying it in the way that I used to enjoy working on something. Let's just say my dominant thoughts are usually along the lines of "that'll show the bastards!!" whenever I'm working on it. But I've not seen any of the bastards that used to dog me at all since I left.

And so, after a year, I'm still trying to yank myself out of a great big rut. I'm getting there, but it's not easy. Some of the things I've decided I need to get back in the proverbial saddle are:

:bulletred: A big improvement in my anatomy skills
:bulletblue: A big improvement in my graff skills
:bulletpurple: A small easel I can set up on the desk in my room
:bulletred: A gigantic set of Touch Twin Markers
:bulletgreen: To be around other people who are into what I'm into

How I'm going to achieve the above:
:bulletred: Whilst lurking in the art scene forum, I stumbled across [link] . Gonna start using this daily. Bloody good idea!
:bulletblue: Start entering sketch battles, this always gets me fired up.
:bulletpurple: Save up.
:bulletred: Save up.
:bulletgreen: Use DA!! In real life i'm surrounded by tools!

So yeah, a standing ovation goes to anyone who's actually managed to read all of this, and if anyone wants to share a few tips or yak about having artist's block, I'd really love that. :)

Peace and love, DA friends, :peace:

P.S :iconboot-cheese-3000:, :icongarbagecat: and :icontr0ks:, I promise to get those exchanges done soon!!
